The MRT series – Bugis (EW12)

Did you know where the Bugis people come from? To save you the trouble of Googling it, we’ll let you in onto the secret. They hail from the southern part of Sulawesi island and were known to be skilful sailors and traders. History suggests they were amongst the first to settle here in our little island when Raffles opened up this trading station.

Today we don’t see much of Bugis legacy but the name reminds. Nearby are important landmarks such as the Sultan’s mosque and the Malay heritage centre. All places one are highly recommended to visit and to appreciate. Perhaps join some hipsters at Kampong Glam. Yup, it’s glam alright!
