Hobbies, do you have any?

We mean, do you have any regular activity that would count as one?

Blogging, or writing could also be one. How about another one besides this? We mean, blogging can’t be your entire life right? Ok we are sure it isn’t, but you tell us. A couple of blogger awards do seek that one share a little more about oneself. And hobbies could obviously be one.

Heheh… btw we are an award free site.

A couple of months back, we were in a series of conversation with Timi (read here for her blog). Now Timi is not only a musician but also a historian and satorialist (can’t remember what it means? Read here). Plus she is really into medieval stuff which is what intrigues us. In the course of the conversation, TImi asked Suan about her hobby. Sorry Timi it took THIS long to reply. So what is one of Suan’s hobbies besides traveling?

Cross Stitching.

When Suan was a student, one of her fascinations was with beautiful motifs. And she liked to create things by hand. With little pocket money she scrimped and saved to satisfy her liking – and cross stitching became her first love – hobby that is… Mel came later… heheh. In that time (more than 30 years ago), there was an abundance of little shops in the little red dot that sold threads, some of which were for stitching.

With instructions from books one can obtain from libraries, Suan studiously copied down the layouts and color codes of the threads. And here are some of her works though there are many more:

Yep. That was what Suan used to do. And she on occasion will still stitch. What hobbies do YOU have?

Author: Mel & Suan

Mel works his day job for a living, but lives for antiquities, history and geography at all other times. He enjoys writing and thought sharing and obviously traveling. Suan is a homey person, who like girlie stuff such as cross stitching etc. Enjoys shopping & modeling for Mel. What a match!

  1. Many hobbies… reading, gardening, rock painting. I spend lots of time being active ( walking, cycling..) would you say it is a hobby ? I also spend time sharing my photos on different sites. Well really a day is never long enough to do all what I like. I never done cross stitching or knitting…

    1. LOL. It does not matter if you don’t play the musical instrument well, what is important is that you enjoy doing it… though it could be at the expense of those who have to listen to it!

  2. Yay, finally I get to see some of Suan’s cross-stitch! So very lovely! I especially like the one that shows both under and over the ocean. And thanks for the link to my blog, although I haven’t been online much at all lately, and haven’t posted in quite awhile. Maybe soon. Meanwhile, thanks again for remembering that I have longed to see some of Suan’s work, and for fulfilling my wish! ❤ Bravo, Suan!

    1. In an earlier phase of my life I used to lead introductory seminars for prospective language teachers. One of our activities was to have them take part in the first four lessons of a beginners’ course in Malayalam, taught by a colleague who was trilingual Malayalam/English/German.

      1. Thats fascinating! And a good choice to show people what it’s like to be immersed in a language not closely related to most other languages. That must really help put people in perspective 🙂 if i went back for a second masters, I’d definitely do linguistic
        Studies.

  3. I used to love cross stitching but haven’t done any for ages – maybe I’ll get back into it now! My hobbies are running, exploring new areas and writing.
