The MRT series – Bishan (NS17)

Sought after place to live for some reason, this was where quite a few cemeteries were in the past. Mel and Suan recall having to climb the little foothills here to the graves for tomb sweeping day… perhaps it’s the feng shui? Today the cemeteries are gone and columbariums in their place. Schools and homes adorn the land.

Do you know that outside of the central city area of the island, this is one of the most coveted places? Homes here are priced higher than the average. For some reason this former cemetery land has become so popular that there are public housing flats here that sell for more than S$1 million! Wanna come see these million dollar public apartments?

→ Braddell (NS18)

Part of the MRT series here.

Author: Mel & Suan

Mel works his day job for a living, but lives for antiquities, history and geography at all other times. He enjoys writing and thought sharing and obviously traveling. Suan is a homey person, who like girlie stuff such as cross stitching etc. Enjoys shopping & modeling for Mel. What a match!

  1. I have a couple of friends who live in Bishan, so I frequent this area quite a bit. Have you guys tried the Kim San Leng hawker centre? I’ve heard the food there is pretty good 🙂 I also travel to Peck San Teng somewhat often; sans the fact that it’s also a columbarium, it also has some really exquisite architecture.
