Star studded Vevey & Montreux

Freddie Mercury memorial at Montreux1
His songs live on!

When I first heard about Vevey, Nestle came to mind. Being such a large company with products in so many areas of daily life, it was obvious. But then as I found out, even more famous icons can be found here.

Charlie Chaplin came to mind. Rejected by his adopted country, he settled in Vevey and produced some of his finest works. Sure everyone remembers his silent movies, but he was not just an actor but a director too.

Then there is Montreux, yet another town nestled along Lake Leman (that’s lake Geneva for those who don’t know). Again the home of stars – and this time, the name that many a teenager knows back in the 1980s – Steve McQueen Freddie Mercury (not sure why nobody pointed this error out earlier!). Rock on yeah!

Let Mel show you more about his discoveries of both delectable towns on the shores of the lake if you had not already read about it from our earlier post on Neuchatel. You will be amazed with what sights and sounds that awaits you should you make the journey to the home of star studded Vevey and Montreux.

Author: Mel & Suan

Mel works his day job for a living, but lives for antiquities, history and geography at all other times. He enjoys writing and thought sharing and obviously traveling. Suan is a homey person, who like girlie stuff such as cross stitching etc. Enjoys shopping & modeling for Mel. What a match!

  1. Thanks for sharing. I have been living in Switzerland for the past 8 years and only recently visited Vevey. Had a beautiful day by the lake, a lovely swim and a relaxing time with my friend. I have a poetry blog on WordPress in case you have time to have a look? Have a nice day, Sam 🙂

  2. Chaplin ran into the over-blown anti-communist fervor of the 40s and 50s. Lots of good folks ended up on the short end of that stick, especially in Hollywood. Really like the castle on the edge of the lake, a beautiful location, Suan. –Curt

  3. You show me a side of Switzerland which I’ve never been able to enjoy: to be a tourist. I’ve been a few times at lake Geneva mostly for work or rushing over the highway to Wallis for skiing. A did have eyes for the beauty though but not wasn’t there long enough to take it in properly. I’ve seen there are quite some house sits there …

  4. You’ve sold it! Where do I sign? I am going to book as soon as specials on flights are available. I can be such a cheapskate.

A fellow Lasallian (Lasallians are students of De La Salle University), Goonie (Santugon was our political party in university) and Student Council officer is currently based in Switzerland. He heads Marketing for Nido (??) – I can say hello to him back. (He was here last year meeting with the advertisers of Nestle, I think for the 100 years..) Why couldn’t I get a job at Nestle? *sigh*

Seriously, Switzerland is on my list for this year (thanks to you!) and if hubby doesn’t wanna go with, I will leave him behind. 🙂
