Exciting Business Opportunity!

Got your attention we hope! Because these three words are frequently the draw of the unwary to a scam. Don’t worry, we are not asking you to send us your hard earned cash (though we don’t mind LOL). If you are really interested in this opportunity, do read on.

You know, Mel & Suan had been reading a lot of blogs recently. A LOT. We’ve leaved through many hundreds, giving our comments and generally enjoying the leisurely reads. One thing stood out : the number of people talking about being a traveler as opposed to just being a casual tourist.

Presenting…. “The World Traveler Institute”, aka WTI.

We have crafted this to be similar but not exactly the same as the UN World Travel Organization. While no affiliations exist between the WTI and WTO, the names should sufficiently cause enough confusion since we in the process of making things up anyway.

What is the purpose of the WTI we hear you ask?

CERTIFICATIONS. That what we do. Like marketers around the world, we seek out new business opportunities. And we have identifed an un-met need.

Yeah, needs some more work

Recall a few paras above, wherein Mel & Suan found an exceedingly large audience of bloggers who appears to be inclined to be travelers instead of tourists? Well, we think this badge of honor, this accolade, this status symbol cannot be self awarded. It has to  be pinned on your chest by an accredited institute. Just like when you get commissioned as a navy SEAL. P.S: this is a very Singaporean thing, getting certified…hehe…

The WTI will cater to this need, which appears to have a CAGR of 10+%. The intent, is to award qualified persons the following levels of certification:

  • Traveller (first tier, er Bronze?), Intent on immersing oneself into local culture. Yes we’ll cater to intent even if they don’t make it. How else to get them started on the cerification train?
  • Wanderer (second tier, Silver), Expert at getting lost, or was it losing oneself? Make up your mind! Hmm..we cannot be exactly sure. But nvm, it’s just a business.
  • Nomad (highest accolade, Gold), Guru of seasonal movement across the globe, hopefully not the bowel type, because of all the cheap street food.
  • For those that gets renewed re-accredited successively for 5 years at the Nomad level, the WTI awards an honarary doctorate-level life-long (Platinum status) award of “Tribal chief”.

Obviously we cannot do it alone and will need partners. We’d need to establish country chapters that can help administrate the assessment and issuance of these certifications. And lest you think this award is for life, think again. We need recurring sales from awardees to maintain their certification annually, so there are criteria for such.

  1. I was just thinking about this with my own creative spin that I’d like to share with you. I’ve been struggling a lot with negative anticipation before I see the results of big risks, which you hit on in here with the radio station metaphor. I improvised a parable to deal with it that went sort of like this: if you were driving for 2 hours from your home to an unknown place, if you spent the whole drive saying “this might suck,” “this might not work,” or worse, “this is going to suck, nothing’s going right,” you’re going to feel like absolute crap for the next 2 hours.

              1. Well, we’re working first on the detailed criteria for the award levels. You know there’s gotta be a credible assessment thingy for it to look legit. Once that’s out of the way, we can look at setting up legal entities and registering shell companies…lol. what do you think?

                1. I think it’s an untapped market. It would be something like an identification a travel agent gets (i.e., IATI number) think that’s the abbreviation ? 3 to 4 levels with qualifications to reach each level, and increased benefits? Just need to ID criteria for each level?

                    1. Well I think youwould need to look at some sponsors, that may provide a service for free or at a discount. What is going to motivate your potential clients to join and to continue to reach different levels? Maybe getting into affiliate programs, which would provide them income.? Partening up with sponsors so they recognize the different levels of the organization. Certain level gets you a blank number affiliated to choose from? Something like that , maybe?

  2. I was looking for the 60,000+ photos. Haha! You got me there. I was thinking you guys are crazy and okay, you have fun and I’ll be a tourist. Those Tc & Cs would disqualify me. Lol!
Going back to the 60,000+ photos (lol!) how does one find time to sort out all photos. I take photos almost everyday, not just travel pics, obviously. 🙂

              1. And it’s expensive! I pay £95 annually. My friend who’s a Chartered (Company) Secretary (local in SA), they’re membership is more than double. But maybe because I’m an ACCA Student and she has done her board to be a certified Company Secretary.

                    1. Benefits? Why it is a badge of honor, an accolade, a status symbol that few (bar none) would have. Imagine being called a Traveller (say it in a deep voice) instead of tourist. Hey this is what people want! And we just give it to them – officially. Because no one can call themselves a guru…other people call you a guru…right?

                    2. Sounds like a plan… It doesn’t seem like it involves a lot of admin. Hey, a business opportunity. But be nice and give them some newsletters at least. 🙂 Or, a website for the “community” members and achievers can get recognition. Let them write also. Benefits – ego-rubbing. 🙂

                    3. Yes, of course. There will be seminars organized as well – webinars since they are mostly on the road, to coach them on getting the next level of certification. We almost hear the faint sounds of the cash machine ringing now…
